Yup I would like to try it too.. Since I'm going to buy an "normal" epiphone custom.. Matthew do you know what the price should be to ship to belgium? Cause Ebay says 15 pound from USA to GB, wich seems cheap

Hi guys, when it comes to the Elitist, most say you may as well shoot for the bottom end Gibbys for value. My plan is just to get a reg new Epi and mod the hell out of it with second hand parts. As Ive been playing Strats for a while its gonna take some getting used to of course. Ive owned an Epi before, but a long time back. Eventually I'll sell, try and make a tidy profit and shoot for a second hand Gibson Custom, preferably no later than 80s. Thats the plan anyway.

ah the old dilemma...lets put into a pizza analogy

Do you buy a cheese and tomato pizza from the supermarket but add real quality topping that maybe even better than an ordered one or do you buy A Margherita pizza from delivery company that is fresher but lacks the toppings...or like the Elitist do you order it from the Turkish guys down the road who make it really nice but some people say best to get a cheaper named pizza!

it depends just how much quality you want/need.

but in any case;
finding an elitist and getting to try one sounds like a tough prospect.
second hand gibsons are poor vlaue for money IMO.

Out of all the guitars mentioned I don't think you can go wrong

Are you absolutely set on a Les Paul?
I only ask because quality wise I think one of the best Epiphones made is the Sheraton.

My theory is that with Epiphone Les Paul's and SG's Flying V's they make them in the shadow of their Gibson relatives.

Epiphone's like the Sheraton, Casino and Wildcat are there own original instruments and they really go to town on making them special.

hell yeah i think a sheraton might end up being the next axe i buy, but that wont be for a year or two yet...

i share your philosophy on that. If the LP's were too good no one would buy gibson.

There's a lot of suspicion over what woods epiphone stick in their solidbody guitars, and while you can still get a damn good LP from them if you look around i would imagine that its unlikely they mess with the woods on something like the sheraton.

people claim epiphone use any random wood for bodys and then just stick on a maple top and bit of mahaogany on the back, kinda sandwitching the rubbish wood in the middle. to what extent thats true i dont know, but i dont see how you could do that with an archtop guitar

im 90% sure my LP has an alder top and im 50/50 whether the back is mahogany, i wouldnt know for sure unless i took it to someone who really knows wood. but who cares i like the sound of it and it plays great
