It's only 'ruining' if you plan on selling it. If you plan on using it, modding is fine. Everyone is hung up on resale value.

Ever watch American Pickers on the History Channel? There was a time when people would buy something and keep it for a lifetime. Everyone now buys with the idea that they are making an investment. If you want to invest, buy stocks.
