It'll be interesting to hear how it sounds. Most all Les Paul's are mahogany body with a carved maple top. This is a mahogany body with a carved mahogany top. Apparently the only other time Gibson ever did that before was on the "Black Beauty" Les Pauls...

I've been wanting a Les Paul but the prices are too steep for me. I really didn't want an Epi, so this will have to do until I hit the lottery.

It remains to be seen what the wife will have to say about my spending the money

Got the guitar about 2 hours ago and I really like it. I've been playing strats for so long that it takes a little adjusting to get used to the LP, but it sounds amazing and plays really well. A little adjustment to the action and it'll be perfect.

Okay, so for years I've said, "If you can't play well on an inexpensive guitar, you won't be able to play well on an expensive one either." Well, I find it interesting that I can play better on this Les Paul than any of the other guitars I've owned - and I've owned 30-some different guitars... Peavys, Fenders, Charvels, Jacksons, BC Richs, Gibsons... I don't know what it is about this axe, but I play it with more confidence and everything just comes easier on it...

I'm guessing that's why Randy fell in love with his Les Paul Custom - that particular guitar just fit him... like a soul mate.

Playing a Les Paul from a Strat does take time to get used to. For the picking hand, most noticably.
