my daughter is interested in playing guitar.
What do ya'll suggest in what would be the best guitar and lessons?

i'm gonna say get her the best acoustic you can buy or borrow.

Well, depends obviously on your price range etc, and whether she wants to play electric guitar or acoustic. I would recommend an acoustic, because then you can strengthen your fingers a little. Playing a nylon string acoustic is nice for first time players, a steel string can sometimes hurt. Acoustics are quite cheap now.

If she wants to play electric guitar, id recommend something like an Epiphone Les Paul or SG, if not, a Fender Squier Tele or Strat. I dont recommend going for any of the, umm, less well known companies, Shine, Gould, Cort etc. If she doesnt want a Fender, or Gibson, theres always lots of older guitars that go for next to nothing on eBay and much better quality than the newer companies that people buy (Shine etc).

I would recommend one of those "starter packs" they sell at Guitar Center and Costco (among other places) - they are usually low priced and the quality is actually rather good for the price.

I'd also recommend an electric to start because the action can be set low, which makes it easier to hold down the strings. Once the basics are learned, a changed to acoustic is good for finger strength.

Lastly, I would recommend a teacher for at least a few lessons to start out. That way your daughter can ask questions specific to her and get direct, detailed answers. The main reason my son in California can't get very far is because is mom won't take him to a guitar instructor to answer his questions and 'show him the ropes". He calls me, but lessons over the phone are really difficult. So I would recommend an instructor for long enough to determine how serious your daughter is about learning the instrument.

I used to have an acoustic; I think it may be in my attic (hopefully), so we can try that out as well. Any other suggestions for a 13 year old girl? (besides driving me nuts!)

i recommend for an electric guitar, an epiphone, good guitars and relatively cheap.

Her room has been painted green. Kermit the Frog green. It's like he exploded in there! It glows!!!
She likes pink, too, but I think green is the color.

dad bought it today while I was at the mask Market.
Got her the Strat Pack.
It's a squire strat and amp.
good lord, I knew I should have gotten it sooner....
and, frank, she wants you to teach her, since she knows who
taught you...

that's sweet. just because you can play doesn't mean you can teach though. it's a different talent altogether. i've been playing my strat for 28 years now and i still love it. i recently bought a les paul standard and i'm still getting used to it. if she (sarah, right?) stays with it, she's in for a lifetime of pleasure.

i think lessons were looked into as well when he bought her the guitar.
at least he better have, otherwise he's an idiot
