I prefer my own route though

amp-volume at full and the EQ not past 4(bass at approx. 1,
mids at maybe 2-3 and highs on approx 4), 10-band MXR EQ
(from '77) and a Wah

I do plan on getting a booster

im saving up for a cats eye at the moment but my bank aint to healthy at the moment so its taking time...

in the meantime i've been getting my tone without a distortion pedal at al (i stoped using my MXR + cos it didnt do anything) l and it works surprisingly well, in fact its fantastic.

i've been using a morely pro volume into a reissue MXR 10 band EQ then straight into a vox ad15 modeling amp on the uk 70s seting (which is supposed to be a mid 70s non-master volume marshall i think).

The 10 band provides the base of the sound, and i can control the guitars volume with the volume pedal. It can go from clean to 70s michael shenker then onto randy esque tone and beyond. And if i switch the amp to uk80s (jcm800) i can get tones more like zakk wylde's.

but heres the strangest thing, the tone was muddy as hell but then i sucked out all the distortion using the EQ's distrtion slider and it sounds like the voice of an angel. i dont really know what that means but i found it interesting...

overal pretty versatile IMO and all thanks to a volume pedal. I dont think i need a distortion pedal at all now... but im still gonna get a cats eye thems look too good not to have

I run a Tube Screamer through MXR EQ...it sounds awesome.

Hey stiltz,
I'm curious. How does the old blue MXR EQ compare (soundwise) with the newer reissue ones?

(I have both the reissue MXR 10 and 6 bands EQ. I like the 6 bands better, more control in the guitars mid spectrum imo. )

i haven't heard the new ones

but the old ones are supposed to be noisier !

Noisier means a lot of times a warmer sound.....

But you like the blue box EQ?

I've got an old blue MXR EQ... never had an issue with it being noisy, though.. of course it's sitting in a box now cause I only ever plug into the Rockman anymore.

I really should consider selling the effects units since I never use them anymore!
