Re: RR fingernails...
Dinomite, Asturias is on the diploma list for most first level diplomas; these are equivalent to the kind of standard an undergrad would be at the end of the second year of study at a music college/university, so it is no push over of a piece! I keep my finger nails quite short, with the exception o...

Re: Check us out in Guitar World
There are so many electric guitarists whose dream is to be where you are Efrum; this is really an achievement to be celebrated! It doesn't get much bigger than Guitar World!

Re: Studying Classical, Blues and Rock at the Same Time?
Hi Chaz This is only my opinion; but as someone who plays several genres myself (classical gypsy jazz and blues rock) I would say yes, it is possible to study music holistically like this, but I found I had to make a very serious decision many years ago about which style was my main focus...and for ...

Re: Adrian Vandenberg and Randy
A pupil I teach played me bits of Slash' solo album and I was pretty impressed. I wasn't expecting it to be quite so good to be honest and was quite taken aback. It sounded very melodic and what I really liked, was that it sounded song orientated and not just an excuse to show off his chops.

Re: Adrian Vandenberg and Randy
Talkin about tasty guitar players what you guys think of slash, yeh his technique might not be up to the players mentioned but I love his playing style and the sound he gets. I think he is one of rocks most gifted melodic guitarists - not to mention his playing oozes rock n roll sleazyness and he u...

Re: Adrian Vandenberg and Randy
... even more off topic, but what I think is missing in a lot of newer rock players is making the distorted guitar growl and scream like a wild animal! Hendrix did, Randy did and of the more recent players to me John 5 does and while he is not my style Ted, the clips I have heard of Doug from you , ...

Re: Adrian Vandenberg and Randy
P.S I saw (and loved) The Wrestler earlier in the week and the whole soundtrack is all 80's hair metal! Ratt's 'Round and Round 'bought back some memories! that was one of my first metal albums I had taped when I was about 12/13. Also there is a funny bit when Mickey Rourke called Cobain a pussy for...

Re: Adrian Vandenberg and Randy
I have to agree with you there Axian whole heartedly. Randy's playing and the quality of song writing on the two Ozzy albums were remarkable; i.e ahead of their time, but most importantly (like all great works of art) timeless. Apples and dinosaurs and also oranges aside ;) - Randy may have worn clo...

I always forget how amazing Jake was with Ozzy (and still is!). The force flows strong with him.

Re: Adrian Vandenberg and Randy
Hi Ted Yes good to 'see' you again on here the matrix Yeah I realised you weren't referring to Paul and Randy's playing being literally similar ;) I was musing with the idea that perhaps Randy had more of an instinct and musical feel than Gilbert. I have heard a lot of Gilbert's work through the yea...

Re: Adrian Vandenberg and Randy
[ quote="Cpt Matt Sparrow"]Interesting comparison! do you mean more the Quiet Riot type writing/playing than the Ozzy material? I can see more of a link there with Whitesnake personally.A lot of people you wouldn't suspect have tipped a hat to Randy, even Ritchie Sambora gives a credit to...
