Re: What five Randy solos would you present to a new listene
When I think of the Crazy Train solo, I think about tapping and when I think about tapping… well, let's just say that it's not what I associate Randy with  I wouldn't show somebody the No Bone Movies solo either for the very same reason. Ok, but it's one of his best known solos, and a very ac...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
Recently Kanye West did a duet with Paul McCartney and there was a social media uproar because Kanye West fans didn't know who Paul McCartney is. Call it blasphemy, but Paul McCartney has a tad bit more historical significance than Randy Rhoads (or Ozzy for that matter), yet there is an entire gene...

Re: What five Randy solos would you present to a new listene
Fair enough, though the solo isn't as intricate as others, it's an exhilarating one, and helps to capture what Randy brought to the table.Stiltzkin wrote:I wouldn't necessarily choose Crazy Train for the solo, but rather for its kickass riff

Mr. Crowley
Crazy Train
SATO
Over The Mountain
Flying High Again
Good, attention-grabbing solos which are interesting, cool, and show Randy's technical proficiency.

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
I think a lot of you misunderstood my question. I get that Randy was into classical music & was phenomenal at playing & was more detailed in creating his parts rather than off-the-cuff... those are all good observations. What I was getting at, though, is why was Randy important? If I'm 13 a...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
my interpretation , good means, complete, Randy's appetite for musical knowledge was .....well, unsatisfiable , which separated him from not only other players in that era, but on a different level. By that I mean, you can be a mechanic, learn all the theory, modes, scales you want but if you don't...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
I always took randy's comment as he wasn't satisfied because he was still searching for his musical identity....it QR they were trying to be a british style glam band but with ozzy he got to spread his wings (largely thanks to working with a guy like bob i think .... please this isn't a comment tha...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
Randy's style is oft imitated, but he had something special in his execution of the material. Now this is what I don't see (hear). I can't name a single player that sounds like he is imitating Randy unless he is playing on a tribute record... but then I may not be listening to the right bands. As f...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
I personally think it was the melding of classical and metal. I'd like to think that both Ritchie Blackmore and Uli Roth took in the classical influence in rock/metal earlier and to a higher degree than Randy did. I'd even put Michael Schenker in that category :) Not saying that Randy didn't do a g...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
Sorry, couldn't add all the quotes in here....wouldn't let me post with that many quotes! Orion_Damage, I disagree, respectfully. Maiden, to a degree, started to pinpoint more precise playing later on in the 80's, but I don't feel like any of those bands had/have overly technical players at the guit...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
I think Randy was the first rock player to really, truly PIONEER metal guitar. I don't think it can be said enough that Randy's work was groundbreaking. See, that's why I asked the question... I've heard this since 1983, but no one can say what he actually did that was "groundbreaking" - ...

Re: What is Randy's "Historical Significance"??
Randy's significance cannot be easily labeled, in my opinion. Certainly, he is significant for the excellent music he made with Ozzy, and to a lesser degree, Quiet Riot, but there is an intangible quality about Randy that makes him unique. I can't quite put my finger on it, but here goes anyway. I t...

Re: Bobs book??
The Kindle and the Kobo could no doubt handle the book. It would be nice to have it on the Kindle app, which you can also get on the Kobo.

Re: Bobs book??
Yes and no, Sky. You can get Kobo ereaders that are just b/w, but you can also get ones that are color. I have a color one. They are very similar to the Kindle Fire ereaders, which is why I asked. It would be great to have Bob's book on an ereader.
