Re: Did Randy Ever Get The Funk Out?
Getting back to Randy's funk, lol.. Earl Klugh was one of Randy's favorite guitar players besides of Leslie West. I think if you even listen to No Bone Movies Rhythm parts there is some degree of syncopation funk style. RR's pick attack was precise and he was quite percussive. Amazing sense of time...

Re: Did Randy Ever Get The Funk Out?
Agree on the Nuno comments. Massive talent.
How about Steve Salas? Not as 'full shred' as Nuno, but a real monster in my books.

Re: Did Randy Ever Get The Funk Out?
High craft and high earnings are not the same thing. Funk, R&B and disco outsold new wave and punk in North America by about 1000 to 1 in the 70s in North America. Maybe more. Saturday Night Fever itself outsold the entire punk thing. Punks were not supposed to be 'successful', or 'good players'...

Re: Did Randy Ever Get The Funk Out?
Not really a 'no brainer' Idol.
I inquired as to if anyone had heard Randy play funk.
Punk isn't a high craft form of music. Funk, on the other hand, requires a little dexterity and musical insight to be played well.

Did Randy Ever Get The Funk Out?
I have never heard evidence of RR playing funk inspired guitar. If it is out there, I have missed it. The reason this is of interest to me is that I am pretty sure, with his fingerboard dexterity and advanced picking and strumming skills, he would have been a monster. He grew up in the 70's = disco/...

Re: Randy's solo spot light Axe
Cool stuff! Very familiar with all Paul's stuff, including Ghost. Yes, I have read that Randy and Paul became fast friends in the Spring of 82, and would spend hours messing with the free Washburn guitars that Paul was offered as an endorser. Lots of footage on YouTube of the UFO fellas mashing away...
