Re: Randy Rhoads Jackson RR3
That is AWESOME. Pete's playing is always great. But damn. Seeing that guitar playing those songs....beyond cool.

Re: Randy's gear future speculation
I think there would have been a midpoint transition for Randy before the Kempers and Fractals became a reality. I can see Randy endorsing ESP and Soldanos at some point. The SLO was becoming huge in the late 80s and early 90s and I can picture Randy using those. Those amps lend themselves to Randy's...

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen in 1978 VS Randy Rhoads in 1978
Malmsteen does nothing for me emotionally. Technically, he's brilliant. But I've never felt a personal connection to his playing. It's almost like "paint by numbers" but at a very high proficient level. On top of that, I never thought he was a good songwriter (which is part of that connect...

Re: How Randy plays Paranoid and COTG in 82
Tommy Aldridge has spoken a number of times that Randy was unhappy in the band and with his contract. I can even remember a magazine article back in 1987 where Tommy talked about Randy having real concerns about his contract. IIRC, Tommy told Randy that the only way he was getting out of the contrac...

Just playing Devil's Advocate.....could it be that the live recordings the Osbournes always had in mind was The Ritz and Bakersfield, California towards the end of the tour? And that no one could foresee that the tragedy was going to occur before those recordings?

Re: How Randy plays Paranoid and COTG in 82
I am not a huge fan of Randy's playing on "Iron Man" but I love his rendition of "COTG" and there's some terrific moments when he does "Paranoid". If he had lived, I would have worn out the "SOTD" record. Even though Tony and Randy are completely different as ...

Re: Randy's return?
From Rudy Sarzo's book, Randy agreed to do what became the "Speak of the Devil" record, one more studio record and one more tour with Oz after the Diary tour. After? I definitely see session work while and after he went back to school. I don't see him as a solo artist because Randy's perso...

He always has.Paul Wolfe wrote:Had Randy left and done something on his own or with Quiet Riot, chances are Ozzy never would have gotten as big as he did because Randy would have overshadowed any guitar player Ozzy had after him.

Re: bernie talks randy
As much as I respect Brad Gillis for the adversity he dealt with (as well as doing an excellent job playing wise), I think it was that much rougher for Bernie. Having to fill in IMMEDIATELY after Randy's passing and tackling guitar parts that were a complete 180 from his style says a lot about the m...

Count me as another who thinks "Tonight" and "SATO" should have been on that list. But a very good list overall.

If not Jake E Lee....
I don't know if this should be in this particular forum, but I've been thinking about this the last few days. While I thought Jake did some really good work with Oz (his playing smokes on big chunks of "Ultimate Sin"), I've also wondered who would have been a good fit for Oz after Randy's ...
