Re: Masters of Heavy Metal 1984 Randy Rhoads 20 page articl

When I wrote Masters of Heavy Metal, only portions of my conversations were used for the Randy Rhoads chapter. In case you've missed them, I've recently posted my complete interviews with Delores and Kelle Rhoads, Ozzy, Rudy Sarzo, and Max Norman. You can find them in my Jas Obrecht Music Archive we...

Randy Rhoads: My 1982 Max Norman Interview

My 1982 interview with Max Norman forcuses on the recording techniques he used to capture Randy's sound when he engineered and produced Ozzy's "Blizzard of Ozz" and "Diary of a Madman" albums. As we go through these albums track-by-track, Max provides details of how Randy's amp w...

Randy Rhoads: My 1982 Ozzy Osbourne Interview

The familiar and slightly confused-sounding voice on the other end of the line said, “Ah, um, this is Ozzy.” With that, Ozzy Osbourne began explaining why he loved Randy Rhoads and chose him to be his guitarist. Ozzy described his loss as "the great tragedy of my life." You can read the wh...

Re: Randy Rhoads: The 1982 Rudy Sarzo Interview

Another great interview, and another great pic I've never seen before! Thank you very much!!!! Do you think there's any chance you could succeed in coaxing John Stix to share the raw interviews he did with Randy as well?? I haven't heard from John since I wrote that cover story 29 years ago.

Re: "My Brother Randy": My 1982 Kelle Rhoads Interview

Glad you like them. There was a finite amount of room for that cover story, so copy had to be trimmed -- otherwise there wouldn't have been room for other articles. This is the nature of magazines. (Also the nature of pre-CD albums, as you'll learn when Max Norman talks about the long outtro solos t...

"My Brother Randy": My 1982 Kelle Rhoads Interview

New on the Jas Obrecht Music Blog: Part 2 of my Randy Rhoads celebration forcuses on his brother, Kelle Rhoads. Randy and Kelle grew up in the same house, attended the same schools, started a band together, and worked in their mom’s music store. After Randy joined Ozzy Osbourne’s band in 1980, he re...

"My Son Randy": My 1982 Delores Rhoads Interview

This is my first day here, and already I like what I see! By way of introduction, I was an editor for Guitar Player Magazine, 1978-1997, and a few months after Randy's accident, I interviewed his immediate family, as well as Ozzy Osbourne, Rudy Sarzo, luthier Grover Jackson, and Max Norman, who engi...
